Barnsley defender Chris Barker is expected to complete a £500,000 move to Ninian Park by the weekend after agreeing personal terms.
Lennie Lawrence concluded negotiations with the 22-year-old late last night, and the deal will be finalised subject to a medical.
The Sheffield-born ace, who was named Young Player of the Year at Oakwell two years ago, arrives following the collapse of The Bluebirds' bid to sign Australian international Tony Vidmar from Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers.
